1.
What is your typical response when you have a set-back at work?
I like to talk it through with different people to see what they think.
I tend to think about it for a while and maybe talk it through with one or two people.
I tend to think about it, understand what happened to cause the set-back and then move on.
2.
Where do you get your motivation and energy from?
By becoming absorbed in what I'm doing - getting my head down and really making progress in doing the best job I can.
By finding out what other peoples' ideas and opinions are and then using these in my work.
By being in touch with lots of people - going out to meetings and having lots of conversations.
3.
How much variety do you like in your work life?
I enjoy being based in the same place of work, do the same type of work each day - that way I know what my day's going to be like.
I like to work on the same types of projects, but I'll occasionally try something a different way or work on something completely new.
Working on the same types of projects each day bores me - I like to have lots of variety, getting involved in completely new things I haven't experienced before.
4.
How flexible are you at work?
I prefer to know exactly what I'm going to do and when I'm going to do it - I don't really like last minute changes.
I like to have a good plan of what is going to happen, but I can deal with last minute changes every now and then.
I am happy dealing with last minute changes and moving things around to accommodate last minute things.
5.
How well organised are you?
Not particularly organised - I often have to hunt around for papers and things I know I've put somewhere.
Pretty organised - I like to plan ahead for important things and have everything in order.
Really organised - I like to know exactly what I need and make sure that I have it so that I can do the job properly.
6.
How do you like to make decisions?
I like to work with the opinions and ideas of others - it's always good to get other people involved in decisions.
It's good to talk to other people to find out what they think, but sometimes you have to go with what you think is best.
I prefer to make decisions by myself - I know the situation and what's required, so I am best placed to make the decision.
7.
How effective are you at managing your work-life balance?
There is a big blur between my work life and my home life - I often check emails or take calls in the evening.
On the whole it's OK - I occasionally work longer hours or at the weekend, but I'm in control of it.
I have a clear line between my work and my home life. When I finish work for the day, I don't think about it any more.
8.
Do you understand what motivates you at work?
I'm not really sure - it varies and I tend to get motivated by what's going on around me.
There are a couple of things that I really enjoy and I try to build those into my work - but it's always good to get inspiration from others.
I make sure that in my work there are lots of things I find interesting and want to achieve.
9.
How confident do you feel about your work?
Not all that confident - I often question whether I've done the right thing or feel quite anxious about what I have to do next.
Reasonably confident - there are some areas I know I could be better in and sometimes I get nervous about what I'm doing, but on the whole I'm OK.
I'm usually confident about my work - if I wasn't doing it right, someone would tell me and I could improve my approach.
10.
How relaxed do you usually feel while you're at work?
Usually relaxed until things go wrong - I find that things can get on top of me and sometimes I can't see a way out of it.
There are things that make me feel tense and upset, but it's unusual that I feel like this.
I enjoy working under pressure - I am still calm and can work through difficulties without getting tense about the situation.
11.
Do you enjoy being creative at work?
I find it pretty hard to be creative - I much prefer to do things the way that I know works rather than coming up with a new approach for the sake of it.
I think it's sometimes worth trying creative approaches, but you also have to recognise when the regular methods are the best ones to use.
I get pretty bored by doing things the same way all the time - I find it pretty easy to come up with different ways of doing things.
12.
How important to you are your work targets?
Not really all that important - I might hit them or I might not, but it's not really in my hands.
I try to hit my targets, but missing my targets would only bother me if I did it regularly.
I work really hard to hit my targets - I would feel disappointed in myself if I didn't hit my target.
13.
How do you like to build relationships with people?
I don't like to force it - it will come naturally if I'm going to get on with someone.
There are some people I make an effort to get to know, but often relationship building happens by chance.
I like to do things that mean I have a lot of good relationships - keeping in regular contact is important to me.
14.
How do you prefer to communicate with people at work?
I tend to stick to one method - like sending emails or picking up the phone. I don't tend to use a load of different ways to contact people.
I use a range of different methods, like phone, email, group discussions, tele-conferences, web-conferences.
It really depends on who I'm speaking to and what we need to get out of the conversation - sometimes we share documents over the web and other times it's a quick text message.
